October 10, 2016 – Jeff Desrosiers, Executive Vice President for Swedish based Vitsab International AB, announced today their participation in the Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association’s 70th Annual Shellfish Growers Conference and Tradeshow at Campbell’s Resort in Chelan, WA, USA held this week.

The conference features Vitsab’s Dr. Peter Ronnow presenting “Time Temperature Indicators (TTIs) – Current Applications and Usage for Vibrio Monitoring in Shellfish.” This 18-month project started with vibrio predictive growth data from USA FDA. Phase 2 was field experimentation and testing with the USA State of Connecticut. Phase 3 included the help of 30 shellfish regulators, farmers, harvesters, and distributors from the Pacific Northwest, the Gulf of Mexico, plus the South, Mid, and North Atlantic regions of the USA. This extensive research resulted in FDA acceptance of Vitsab’s unique Shellstock Harvest and Shell Safe Shipping Smart TTI Formulations.

“Every year many people globally fall ill to vibriosis, a naturally occurring bacteria found in shellstock, for example oysters on the half shell. Some of these illnesses even result in fatalities. This ground breaking work resulted in Smart Time Temperature Indicator Labels engineered to follow the time/temperature relationship of vibrio growth.  When used to monitor shellstock from harvest to plate, they alert if there is the potential for dangerous levels of vibrio. It is very gratifying to release a product that can potential reduce illness and even prevent death” said Jeff Desrosiers.

Dr. Ronnow’s presentation is Thursday October 13th at 8:30 am plus Vitsab will have a display educating attendees about their work including samples for demonstration and distribution.
